Welcome to Lineville
The scenic crossroads of Alabama
The City of Lineville Alabama is a small town with unique qualities. We have as our motto "Scenic Cross Roads Of East Alabama." We celebrated our 100th birthday in 1998 as an incorporated city. Lineville goes back much farther for this was once called Lundy's Cross Roads. It was named Lineville when a new county known as Clay was formed from two existing counties - Randolph and Talladega - and this town formed on the line, thus becoming the present day location in 1859.
We have a lot of our history preserved in the city Library and in a time capsule that will be opened and added to every 25 years. We are continually working on this project for future generations.
We now like to refer to our fair city as "The Scenic Cross Roads of East Alabama". We have many famous people who have grown up in Lineville, one of which is NASA Astronaut Joe Edwards who was the Commander of the Shuttle Endeavor. We have honored Commander Edwards with signage, preservation of his flight suit, and naming the street by our high school Edwards Street. There are others from our area with high accomplishments, but this is just an example of how we feel toward our people. We have good departments in our city and many different boards of volunteers under the umbrella of the City of Lineville, each with unique corporate charters which control its relationship to the city. We are located only ten miles from the beautiful Cheaha State Park, which is host to approximately 300,000 visitors each year.
